Types of Handbags & how they're carried!

Ever stood noticing the gazillion different kinds of handbags? You'd be surprised.
While reading the Cosmopolitan december 2010 issue- India; I came across this survey they had conducted, based on which they came to the conclusion that 100% women, when asked to save up to buy ONE designer, branded item, would go for a handbag.
So is it merely a display of wealth for all the world to see? I'm afraid it's more than that. The type of handbag you carry, has a lot to do with you. Know why?
It's an important accessory. A very necessary part of your do.
So you don't just walk off with any type of bag, no matter it's colour, expecting to look just about glam! You gotta know how to wear it.
There are several different types of handbags. And they have to be used differently.

1. Antique

Antique handbags have a vintage look to them. They're usually made of brown leather, and are tiny with long straps.
- They're best worn with old-school clothing.Winter skirts of neutral colours
- Wear them with dark blue jeans and another pair of leather clothing- Boot or a leather jacket.
- Pinks, Bright green, Blue, Yellow/Orange: AVOID.
- Goes well with Red, Brown, Tan, Nude colours.

2. Bucket Bags

They're big, and hence the name. These bags are more of a convenience than anything else. They've got all the room you need for a busy day ahead. What's best about these bags is that they're comfortable.
- They can be carried with anything, almost. Apart from part dresses, obviously.
- Carry them with a pair of Jeans and a Tee, or Hot pants and a Top. Works with skirts as well.
- Looks great in just about any colour.
If you're running late, wanting to run the hell out of your house, just grab one that works well with your outfit, toss your things right into it and dash out.

3. Carpet Bags

They're about as spacious and almost as large as Bucket Bags.
As the name suggests, Carpet bags are made of carpet material and some of them come out very classy looking.
- Don't carry them with shorts.
- They're best with formals
- While buying carpet bags, make sure not to buy them in bright colours.
- If the colour of the bag isn't synchronized with your outfit, you can go seriously wrong.

4. Clutch

Ah, the very merry clutch. Its ever so essential, if you're a fashionista. You probably have a variety of these lined up in your wardrobe!
If you're leaving for a party, a clutch is the way to go. The clutch looks it's best with a dress, or with your glamorous party outfit.
- Don't mix colours. Always remember that your clutch should be colour- synchronized.
- Don't make the mistake of carrying a party clutch with a pair of casual jeans and a tee.

Clutch= Party!

5. Drawstring Bags

A drawstring bag is more like a pouch attached to a long, thin strap. It looks best in wool, else sequined.
- Carry them with winter clothing, woolen skirts and cardigans.
- Looks cute in bright colours.
- Those that come sequined have a more ethnic look to them. These look good with ethnic wear, mostly indian.
- Don't carry them with jeans.
- Don't go well with dresses.

6. Envelope Purse

Y'know, the kind that has a flap? The one that opens and shuts like an envelope? That, is the Envelope Purse (hence the name).
- Take it with a formal skirt and a shirt.
- Carry it with leggings and a long top.
- Don't carry it with a flowing dress or a skirt.
- If you've got one with a metal strap, that's the best kind of Envelope Purse. Those with heavy, thick straps don't look as attractive.

7. Half-Moon Bags

Half moon bags are tiny. The straps are short as well. They look good with both- formals as well as informals. They're crescent- shaped and look best in dull colours. There isn't much room for all the things you'd require for the day. But when you're out for the evening, or just out for lunch, it's ever so chic!
- Work well with casuals, or jeans with a formal shirt.
- These bags add a sense of formality to your outfit.
- Carry them with a stole with a matching colour, and it looks good.

8. Muff Bags

Ooh, the faux fur. Muff bags, like I said, are made of faux fur. They're great for winter. Take it with formals or with casuals- It's one thing that works with dresses, goes with woolens, hats, mufflers.
Especially this winter, since faux fur is completely in. Jackets, mufflers, and the Muff bag- we just cant get enough of fur!
Well, I've given it already- The Tip.
The muff bag is going to go well, with anything this winter. Stick to the dull colours though. Don't go crazy creative!

8. Tote

Ah, our very own Tote. Don't you like to carry it just every possible where? It's almost identical to a bucket bag. Only, it's shape is a tad bit different. Like, it's got a lot of compartments. It's idea is pretty much a steal from that of a regular shopping bag.
In fact, the tote can be carrying with just about anything. That party dress, included!
